1.       In the past twenty years there has been increasing awareness about global warming and its permanent effects. According to Elizabeth Bristow and Amy J. Ftizgerald, “There is a growing scientific consensus that the average global surface temperature has increased since 1861 and that the increase observed in the 20th century is the largest of any century throughout the past [millennium] (IPPC,2001)” (206).

2.       The United States has recently become the most financially dependent Country in the world, “China is now the world's leading creditor nation, while the United States is the world's largest debtor. Beijing is the largest foreign holder of US government debt - passing Japan in 2008 to become, in effect, the [United States] largest foreign creditor” (100).

According to Haliza Abdul Rahman, she asks the question, “How long can we continue to foul the earth with the wastes that we produce in industry, agriculture and our homes?” This disturbing question is answered by Gowri Koneswaran. “Although much evidence has been amassed on the negative impacts of animal agricultural production on environmental integrity, community sustainability, public health, and animal welfare, the global impacts of this sector have remained largely underestimated and underappreciated”.
